Oh damn, please forgive me…tell me next time you see iA I will try to make things right.

As Americans, we have this naïve assumption that people all over the world are struggling and way behind us. They’re not. Sweden and South Korea have more advanced high speed internet networks. Japan has the most advanced trains and transportation systems. Norwegians make more money. The biggest and most advanced plane in the world is flown out of Singapore. The tallest buildings in the world are now in Dubai and Shanghai. Meanwhile, the US has the highest incarceration rate in the world.

10 Things Most Americans Don’t Know About America http://bananenplanet.wordpress.com/2012/07/17/10-things-most-americans-dont-know-about-america/ (via curlycherie)

There are two areas where the USA is way out in front of the rest of the world: war and prison. The technology of killing is the main investment of US national energy, and of course the semi-public semi-private incarceration economy is flourishing while schools and roads crumble. In many other quality-of-life terms — housing, healthcare, public transportation, public access to technology, mental health support, support for people with disabilities, childcare, primary education, maternity support, social safety net — I think a lot of US Americans personally know that things are not exactly rosy but see no options for fixing it.

We often feel that it is someone else who is making us unhappy, and we can become very resentful. If we look at the situation carefully, however, we will find that it is always our own mental attitude that is responsible for our unhappiness. Another person’s actions make us unhappy only if we allow them to stimulate a negative response in us. Criticism, for example, has no power from its own side to hurt us; we are hurt only because of our self-cherishing. With self-cherishing we are so dependent on the opinions and approval of others that we lose our freedom to respond and act in the most constructive way.

Reflect on this.

In the Qur’ān, Allāh jalla wa ‘alā says:

“They ask you about the crescent moons. Say…” (2:189)
“They ask you what they should give. Say…” (2:215)
“They ask you about fighting in the prohibited month. Say…” (2:217)
“They ask you about intoxicants and gambling. Say…” (2:219)
“They ask you about menstruation. Say…” (2:222)
“They ask you what is lawful for them. Say…” (5:4)
“They ask you about the Hour, ‘When will it happen?’ Say…” (7:187)
“They ask you about it as if you were eager to find out. Say…” (7:187)
“They ask you about the battle gains. Say…” (8:1)
“People ask you about the Hour. Say…” (33:63)

Every single non-repeated honest question in this form in the Qur’ān, is followed by the command from Allāh jalla wa ‘alā to: SAY…

Except for one verse.

Allāh jalla wa ‘alā said: “If My servants ask you about Me…I am near.” (2:186)

Amazing. He never told the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) this time to, “Say…”

Why? Because this is about du‘ā. There are no intermediaries needed such as previously like the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam), when it comes to du‘ā.

This is about the slave of Allāh wanting to speak to his true Lord – a Lord who doesn’t need appointments, loves to be asked, loves those who make constant du‘ā to Him, loves those who don’t depend on anyone but Him, loves that there are no intermediaries between Him and His slave, and loves to respond directly when spoken to directly and sincerely.

Allāhu Akbar. This really is a breath-taking point to consider from the amazing splendours of the Qur’ān.

The most striking thing about the beauty of an authentic orthodox Islam as practised by the Salaf, is just this direct, pure and immediate access to Allāh when you want to speak to Him.

There are no Catholic Priests, or in a more orthodox Christian light the Son of God, or indeed various gods from a polytheistic angle such as Hinduism, or special intermediaries in Sufi mystic orders and tarīqahs, or certains Imāms with the Shī‘ah, and even the use of the Prophet within some Sunni Muslim sects, that are required to carry your message, plea or request to Allāh Almighty Himself.

No. It’s just you and Allāh. Speak to Him directly to your heart’s content. And now after realising just how easy Allāh makes this and wants you to come straight to Him, I hope you will do so even more now. Du‘ā truly is the weapon of the Believer. Don’t be stingy or delay using it ever.

The cyclone soon to hit Burma and Bangladesh, the Burmese government is providing shelter to hundreds of citizens, however there is much concern over what will happen to the Muslim population of Burma. Of course, government most likely will not provide the Muslims with any refuge.

May Allah protect the Rohingyan Muslims during such a time.

Please keep them in your prayers.
